Friends of Chernobyl’s Children Medway is very close to Laurence’s heart as he has been involved with the charity for 2 years.
Laurence, age 5, decided he wanted to raise money for Friends of Chernobyl’s Children Medway after talking about the charity to his school council. It was a Friday evening and he said he wanted to do something for Sofia, we have been her host family for the last 2 years. Laurence explained he wanted to give money to help and then reminded us he had new walking shoes and he wanted to use them. It was very clear after our discussion he wanted to do a sponsored walk. The next task was to decide on a route. After looking on maps it was clear that Rochester Castle to Upnor Castle and back was perfect, as Laurence loves castles.
Sunday 21st October arrived and much to our delight the sun was shining, we couldn’t have asked for better weather. Laurence was extremely excited and couldn’t wait to get walking. Laurence walked at a very good pace and was happy
all the way. On reaching Upnor Castle he still had energy to climb to the top before lunch. Lunch finished, he was ready for the return journey and was just as fast, there were times when Mummy and Daddy were running to catch him up. Once in Rochester Castle gardens he ran to the castle and then proceeded to ask, “Can I go up the castle?” Yes, we climbed to the top! Mummy and Daddy are very proud of him for undertaking such a task and doing it with such joy.
Laurence was extremely happy to receive a certificate from Tony and Linda , the Coordinators, thanking him for his hard work.
